Birth of Jesus Devotional: Luke 2:7, 13–14 and the Humble King

A Christmas devotional illustration of baby Jesus in a manger with Mary and Joseph, under the glow of angelic wings and warm light.

This devotional reflects on the quiet birth of Jesus in a manger.

The King of humility came to the lowest place for our salvation.

Today, we remember His love and ask for a life that shares this good news.

“She gave birth to her firstborn son, wrapped him in cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them to stay.
Suddenly, a great multitude of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those who are pleasing to Him.’”
(Luke 2:7, 13–14)

Birth

The King of humility was born.

The most precious, the greatest, the highest One

came to the lowest and most humble place.

To the land of sinners,

not even to a narrow, shabby room at an inn,

but laid in a manger.

Jesus Christ came from the most beautiful and highest place

down to the very lowest.

He came for everyone,

yet no one welcomed Him except a few.

The Humble King, the Beautiful Love

Now Jesus is seated on high,

at the right hand of God’s throne.

Therefore, we should carry this good news to others as well.

Even the birth of a single baby ought to be blessed.

Yet the Creator God taking on a human body,

and being born as the infant Jesus,

is truly shocking—and the most beautiful love.

He came.

To His land, to His people.

Waiting for His Return, Sharing His Gospel

On the day the Lord promised He will come again,

countless children of God will lift their hands,

dance and leap,

shout,

weep and laugh,

and welcome Him.

As we wait for the Lord to return,

I hope we will share Jesus Christ

through our small faith and ordinary lives.

For you, the baby Jesus was born.

To save you,

He came to this earth in a human body.

“Jesus, thank You for being born on this earth as the baby Jesus.

Because You loved us, You left the throne of heaven

and were born on this lowly earth in the likeness of a sinner.

Having received Your great grace and love, let us now let that love flow outward.

To the souls living in darkness because they do not know Jesus,

let us proclaim this joyful gospel.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.”
